Established on 8 May 2025, the Institute for Medical Advancement and Clinical Excellence (IMACE) is an independent and professional-led platform initiated by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to develop evidence-based clinical guidelines and explore the feasibility of devising service quality and efficiency standards for public and private healthcare sectors. The IMACE serves to drive clinical excellence and improve practice quality of the healthcare sector, thereby further promoting the development of Hong Kong into an international health and medical innovation hub.

The IMACE comprises seven founding members from both the public and private healthcare sectors in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the Department of Health, the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority, the LKS Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, the Primary Healthcare Commission and The Hong Kong Private Hospitals Association. To uphold the principle of professional autonomy, the Health Bureau has funded the operation of the IMACE without joining its discussions.

By advancing best practices, the IMACE promotes professional exchange among healthcare personnel, and facilitates their understanding and use of the latest technologies in their daily practice. The relevant clinical guidelines and standards also serve as public education tools to facilitate informed and effective communications between doctors and patients.
